Combining natural folklore & nail-biting storyline that feels impossibly timely, Chavez’ short feels like a picture-book come alive.

Caracol Cruzando is an animated short about a young Costa Rican girl who faces the hardest decision she's ever had to make-should she sneak her best friend and pet turtle with her across the U.S. Miami border, or should she leave him behind?

Caracol Cruzando is written and directed by Pamela Chavez.

Caracol Cruzando received a New Media grant from Latino Public Broadcasting and premiered online at the PBS Online Film Festival.

In just 15 minutes, the short film lands a powerful punch about the pain, trauma, resilience and unlikely beauty with this migrant experience.
